Etienne Maurice Falconet

Sculptor : Falconet, Etienne Maurice (1st December 1716 – 4th January 1791)

Background : Etienne Maurice Falconet was born to a poor family in Paris, France.

Notes of Interest : Falconet was the pupil of famous sculptor Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne. In 1766 he was invited to Russia by Catherine the Great to create a bronze statue of Peter the Great along with his pupil (and stepdaughter Marie-Anne Collot). Many of Falconet's religious works were destroyed during the French Revolution.
