Description : Bronze statues of a Mare, named La
Reyna, and her foal overlooking the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. On the base are reliefs depicting training and racing scenes.

History Of the Mare and Foal Sculpture : The
Mare and Foal sculpture by French Sculptor, Arthur Jacques Le Duc, was purchased in 1891. The mare's name is
La Reyna but the foal (so far as I can gather) has no name.

This statue was restored in June 2002 through a gift in honour of the late
Lady (Bernice Mitchell) Finley
who loved these gardens. |
